Ausfilm, Australia’s industry association for screen service businesses responsible for attracting international film and television productions to Australia, has appointed Patrick May to the role of Director of Policy & Research, based in Ausfilm’s Sydney office. 

In this role, Patrick will work with industry and government stakeholders, lead policy development and provide high level strategic advice on policy issues impacting Australia’s standing as a world-class production destination for international filmmakers. Patrick’s role will also manage Ausfilm’s governance and reporting requirements and help determine and execute Ausfilm’s annual advocacy and research priorities.

Patrick has deep experience in Australian screen industry policy and research. He joins Ausfilm after several years as Manager of Strategic Policy and Insights at Screen Australia, where he was responsible for developing and delivering key policy and strategic initiatives and managing major research projects. Patrick managed several editions of Screen Australia’s Drama Report and contributed to important industry projects such as the 2020 Supporting Australian Stories on our Screens—Options Paper, co-authored by Screen Australia and the Australian Communications and Media Authority. Patrick has worked with government and industry stakeholders on key issues including the impact of evolving technologies, the COVID-19 pandemic, and equity and inclusion.

Patrick will commence in the role on May 1, 2023.
