The success of mega-hit Kong: Skull Island, which opened in March, is showcasing Queensland’s stunning locations to an international audience.
Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island filmed in Queensland in 2016 – at the Village Roadshow Oxenford studio and on location at Mount Tamborine’s rainforest and South Stradbroke Island.
Hollywood director Jordan Vogt-Roberts was thrilled by the beaches of South Stradbroke Island which featured in the film’s opening.
“The sand dunes [were] one of the most amazing locations of the whole shoot,’’ he said in an interview for The Courier-Mail (9 March 2017).
The hinterland rainforest at Mount Tamborine also made an impression. “Queensland’s jungles have a unique and beautiful vibe,” he said.
“There was something about the space between the trees which reads so beautifully on film…and we had one of the best crews I’ve ever worked with in my entire life.”
Queensland’s unique locations helped Screen Queensland secure the production, which spent more than $24 million in Queensland and created local jobs.
To show its appreciation to the crew, Legendary presented a special give-back preview screening of Kong: Skull Island for the Queensland crew prior to the film’s Australian opening on March 9th.
