The gripping Australian series Troppo has put Queensland back on screens with its second season now streaming locally and in the US, UK and Europe.

Set in the fictional town of Crimson Lake in Far North Queensland, the tropical noir crime drama was filmed around the Gold Coast and surrounding South-East Queensland locations, showcasing the region’s stunning waterways, lush rainforests and rural farmland settings, as well as quaint riverside towns and mountainside retreats.

Based on New York Times best-selling Crimson Lake novels by Candice Fox, the second instalment in the series picks up six months on, with Ted (Thomas Jane) and Amanda (Nicole Chamoun) investigating a bizarre local murder and an exotic drug ring, whilst Amanda tangles with an old enemy and a new love, and Ted’s past stalks him and his family to Crimson Lake — with deadly consequences.

Filming in Queensland was a great experience. We managed to find a perfect location to base the production, it had the space we required and the look of the unique small town we were after. Near to our location there were mangroves, cane fields and lovely houses built amongst the trees… The Queensland-based cast and crew were experienced, professional and a joy to work with.

Screen Queensland continues to attract top-tier productions with the recently announced feature film Balls Up, secured through its Production Attraction Strategy, with cameras now rolling in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance film is from director Peter Farrelly (Green Book, There’s Something About Mary) and stars Mark Wahlberg (The Family Plan) and Paul Walter Hauser (The Instigators), with writers Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese (Deadpool & Wolverine).

Filming of Amazon MGM Studios and AGBO’s The Bluff starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Karl Urban also continues on the Gold Coast, while Stan Original series Good Cop/Bad Cop, produced by Jungle Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, and Brouhaha Entertainment’s Australian thriller Dangerous Animals both recently wrapped.

Screen Queensland is the state government-owned screen agency for one of Australia’s leading production destinations, offering bespoke location services and competitive incentives. The Production Attraction Incentive is available to productions with a minimum spend of AU$3.5 million in the state and can be used in conjunction with the federal government’s Location Offset. The 15% Post, Digital, Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive is available to projects spending a minimum AU$250,000 on qualifying PDV.
