There are plenty of reasons to choose Melbourne for your next production, including our flexible and iconic city and regional locations.

Recent Australian-Chinese co-production Dogfight saw Melbourne’s city streetscapes and buildings seamlessly replicate the deco style architecture of 1930’s Shanghai, while the Weinstein Productions/ See-Saw Films drama Lion starring Dev Patel, Rooney Mara and Nicole Kidman, shot in and around Melbourne and the world-class Docklands Studio Melbourne.

Located only five minutes from the city centre, the studios offer state-of-the-art, dry-hire facilities for film and television production. The studios are easily accessible to all major motorways, Melbourne airport and surrounding regional areas.

Docklands Studios Melbourne recently welcomed hit HBO series The Leftovers and Universal Cable Productions science fiction TV mini-series Childhood’s End, and in early 2017 will see production commence on Peter and Michael Spierig’s supernatural thriller Winchester starring Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren.

“Docklands was a big reason why Melbourne was our choice…I can only speak highly of our experience there”.
– Eugene Kelly, Co-Executive Producer, The Leftovers

Victoria’s landscapes provide uniquely Australian settings with many in close proximity to the city, such as Hanging Rock, The Grampians and the Great Ocean Road. Melbourne’s historical and contemporary architecture can service period, contemporary and futuristic storylines and provides the flexibility to double for cities such as Boston, Chicago, New York, London and Paris.

Melbourne is also home to award-winning post-production houses, including Deluxe’s Iloura and Luma Pictures. Among Iloura’s recent credits are a package of VFX work for Ghostbusters and the epic Emmy-winning battle sequence in Game of Thrones episode ‘Battle of the Bastards’, while Luma Pictures helped create the seamless visuals for Deadpool and Dr Strange.

Producers who bring their film or television production to Melbourne also have access to all the city has to offer in terms of lifestyle, including cultural and sporting events, theatre and live music, world-class dining and renowned cafe culture.
