Funded by the Tasmanian Government, both Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky and Sidelines were showcased at the Australian International Documentary Conference.
A Tasmanian Government supported documentary has taken home a major award at the inaugural Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) Awards. The innovative documentary Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky, created and produced by Tasmania’s Roar Film alongside Taramind Tree Pictures, was awarded Best Documentary/Factual Single.
The documentary invites viewers to experience the arrival of Captain Cook and the HMS Endeavour through a First Nations’ perspective, with the story told by a diverse group of indigenous musicians and includes original songs that tell the Indigenous story of connection to Country, resistance and survival throughout history.
Nominated for the Best Short-From Documentary Award, Electric Yak’s Sidelines was one of three original Tasmanian documentaries that were part of the joint Short-Form Factual Initiative between Screen Tasmania and SBS, funded by our Government’s Screen Innovation Fund. In Sidelines, best mates Shaun and Zac work to turn the struggling Derwent Scorpions Cricket Club fortunes around by recruiting new teammates from Hobart’s migrant community.
Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky and Sidelines are both available to watch on SBS on Demand.
